A patriotic, member-based organization, the CAF serves the public good by preserving vintage, historic, combat aircraft and, through educational programs designed to enlighten and entertain, making the history of military aviation come alive for students. Like the venerable Smithsonian, in developing these programs, consideration was given to fostering community support and involvement from teachers, parents and the business community.

Like NASCAR, the CAF's AIRSHO CIRCUIT positively impacts upon the regional economies of numerous locations through attendance, (500,000) creating revenue streams that continue throughout the year. In addition to hosting numerous airshows that draw national crowds of nearly 500,000 people, the CAF's fleet of 150 flyable, historic, combat aircraft travels to and participates in dozens of related airshows. It is estimated that over 10 MILLION people per year, worldwide, are exposed to some of these national treasures.
